Taylor Sheridan‘s shows are notorious for introducing shocking character deaths – and Landman’s season 2 finale will likely be no different.
The Paramount+ series, which premiered in 2024, follows the world of oilfields in West Texas. Landman features Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy, a corporate fixer working for an oil titan named Monty (Jon Hamm). As the first season came to an end, Monty was killed off, setting up Demi Moore‘s Cami as the new lead.
“You kind of drop these little pieces throughout the entire season,” executive producer Christian Wallace told TV Insider in January 2025 while reflecting on the major plot twist. “There’s Monty checking his heart rate on his watch or his wife Cami telling him no more coffee and just little things that were dropped this entire time to kind of let you know that something’s going on so that when it does finally happen, it’s not just completely out of nowhere.”
He continued: “But you also don’t wanna be too heavy-handed about it and just telegraph that explicitly to the viewers. So it’s just kind of a matter of trying to strike that balance of letting people know that there’s an issue without making it just the only thing that they can think about.”
Which ‘Landman’ Stars Are – And Aren’t – Returning for Season 3?
The season 2 finale, which airs Sunday, January 18, is titled “Tragedy and Flies,” which could indicate a death. Sam Elliott‘s character T.L. might be the most likely option, since most of his time on screen has consisted of him complaining about various medical ailments – but he isn’t the only one who could be on the chopping block.

Tommy Norris

Cami threw Tommy a curveball when she fired him from M-Tex Oil right before the finale. Thornton has previously said he signed on for four or five seasons of Landman, but it remains to be seen how Sheridan’s plans shake out.
Cami Miller

Danny ‘Gallino’ Morrell

Andy Garcia‘s character was introduced as the big bad at the end of season 1 and has been looming over Tommy throughout season 2 – but how long can that story line last? Gallino could be taken off the board, giving Tommy and Cami new issues to deal with, or he might get a chance to overpower Cami with M-Tex Oil, which would cement his future on the show for at least one more season.
Cooper Norris

The penultimate episode of season 2 ended with Cooper (Jacob Lofland) beating up the guy who violently raped his fiancée, Ariana (Paulina Chavez). Some viewers were worried Cooper will spend time in jail after the fight, so there is a chance Cooper could face another aggressive beating that he won’t come back from.
Dale Bradley

Throughout the entire season, viewers have seen the on-the-ground effects of working for an oil company. Killing off Dale (James Jordan) in the field – after he said he had no plans to retire – could be just the plot twist Sheridan is known for.

Theodore ‘Boss’ Ramone

Speaking of dying in the field, Mustafa Speaks‘ character recently hinted at his timeline for getting out of the business. Those could be ominous words ahead of the season finale.
