Baez is back Beantown.
PEOPLE has an exclusive clip from the Friday, April 17 episode of CBS’ crime-drama Boston Blue, featuring the return of Blue Bloods star Marisa Ramirez as NYPD Detective Maria Baez.
This is far from the first time Baez has shown her face in Danny Reagan’s new city, as the pair have established a long-distance relationship since the launch of the Blue Bloods spinoff in October. It is, however, the first time the former partners have teamed up for a proper investigation since Danny’s Brooklyn days.
In the clip, which also features Danny’s BPD partner Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) and Lena break down an ongoing arrest warrant for a man named Kiko Balzan, who they say is wanted for murder in Brooklyn. Balzan, Lena says, got into a dispute with two men at a Brooklyn club before he shot and killed a 22 year old.
As Danny and Lena explain the case further, Baez shows up to let the team know that the man they’re looking for is part of a “street-level crew” in Boston and is believed to be staying in Mission Hill, hence why she came to the BPD to assist.
“Let’s be careful out there and let’s show NYPD Detective Baez how we do it here in Beantown,” Lena says.
After Danny, Lena and Baez give everyone the rundown on the case, Baez and Danny have a little one-on-one time. “You know, this is the first case we’ve worked together since we started dating,” Danny tells her. “Are you OK? You’ve kind of been all business since you got here.”
“Yeah,” Baez says. “I’m just tired of running on this homicide.”
Danny responds: “So let’s catch a bad guy. So maybe we can mix some pleasure in with all your business.”
After Baez walks away, it appears she and Danny still have some things to straighten out beyond just the case at hand. Per a logline from CBS, the episode, titled “For Those Who Weren’t Heard,” follows “a dangerous cross‑city case,” in which Baez returns to “uncover the truth and protect a vulnerable victim.”
“Meanwhile, separate investigations test personal loyalties and moral boundaries as the team confronts difficult family dynamics,” the logline continues.
After Blue Bloods wrapped its 14-season run in December 2024 without clarifying whether Danny and Baez’s romance came to fruition, Boston Blue picked up where things left off. In the series’ fall premiere, the former partners reunited and confirmed their relationship.
Things soon became long-distance as Danny left for Boston to be closer to his BPD rookie son Sean (Mika Amonsen). That temporary stay has only become permanent in more recent episodes, meaning things aren’t quite as simple as they used to be for Baez and Danny.
Boston Blue airs on CBS on Fridays at 10 p.m. ET and arrives the next day on Paramount+.
