Virgin River star Marco Grazzini has spoken out about his exit from Netflix’s longest-running series after six seasons.

The Canadian actor, 45, first joined the romance drama — about a nurse practitioner (Alexandra Breckenridge) who gives up city living for a remote Northern California town — in its second season as a recurring character, detective Mike Valenzuela. He was later promoted to a series regular in season three.

However, on Thursday, the same day season seven premiered, Netflix confirmed Grazzini’s character will not be returning for the show’s eighth season.

Addressing the news in a statement to Entertainment Weekly, Grazzini said: “Character departures are very common in this business — especially on a long-running and beloved series like Virgin River. It’s been a wonderful opportunity to play Mike for six seasons.”

He added that he has “nothing but love for the cast, crew, and especially the phenomenal fans who make the show so special.” “I’m excited for this new chapter in my career,” he said.

This season, Grazzini’s Mike, a former Marine who served with Martin Henderson’s lead character Jack, embarks on a mission with his love interest, Brie (Zibby Allen), to find missing woman Charmaine (played by original Virgin River cast member Lauren Hammersley).

Hammersley, too, will be leaving the show after its current season.

Virgin River became the streamer’s longest-running English-language drama series with its seventh season renewal in 2024. It was renewed again for an eighth season in July 2025, well ahead of its season seven premiere on Thursday.

Production on the new season is scheduled to take place in Vancouver, Canada, between April and August, with an expected release date sometime in 2027.

Speaking recently to Deadline about how he maintains the show’s storyline, showrunner Patrick Sean Smith said: “For me, I’m just trying to look to the longevity of the show and making sure that the characters that we’re keeping have enough story engine in them to keep going.

“So I can’t say there are any specific cast shakeups planned, but I think we will have to start to — as characters run their course — make some decisions and bring in some new blood,” he continued.

“Mike probably will be on the back burner for a little while until we have something we’ve written. We have so many relationships already that I think a little bit of that was just a sort of happy ending for this chapter for Mike to find his way back to Victoria and to explore what happens there. But I love Marco and could see his character coming back in a more substantive role if the creative is right.”

Season 7 premieres March 12, 2026 and it’ll once again have 10 episodes, spanning just over eight hours total. (In other words, it’s the perfect binge-watch!) And that part isn’t all that surprising, but it *is* interesting to see how the titles now line up in the order we’ll actually watch them.

Season 6 ended with Jack walking into the twins’ bedroom in a tense and scary moment that left us without any answers about what we saw or what had happened. If Season 7 picks up immediately after that, “The Afterglow” could refer to the emotional fallout of whatever that moment brings—so not necessarily something positive, but just the lingering impact after a shocking event.

Episode 2 is called “Beautiful Child,” and placing that so early makes you wonder if Lizzie and Denny’s baby storyline moves forward quickly instead of hovering in the background the way it has been. There’s also “Always Anywhere Forever” sitting right in the middle of the season, which sounds like it could tie into Mel and Jack’s marriage—especially knowing that Episode 9, “La Luna De Miel,” is the longest of the bunch. Since filming took the cast to Mexico this season, it’s not hard to guess that that’s where their honeymoon unfolds. The finale is titled “David and Goliath,” which doesn’t feel like an accident. After Zeeko Zaki’s OA was notably missing from FBI Season 8 Episode 5, fans are worried that he’s leaving the show. Since OA has been one of the central characters since the beginning, his unexpected sidelining has had people wondering the reason behind it.

Here are the details on why the actor could have been missing.

Why was OA missing in FBI Season 8 Episode 5 and is he leaving?

Since FBI Season 8 premiered in October 2025, the series has delivered strong episodes every week. However, after the season’s fifth episode aired, fans are now curious whether OA, played by Zeeko Zaki, is leaving the show. Fortunately, that’s not the case.

In Episode 4, titled “Falsetto,” OA and Maggie were assigned to protect and escort Senator Charlotte Hirsch. However, during their flight, the Senator was poisoned through a cane, which ultimately killed her. Although OA and Maggie identified the culprit, the poison also affected former during their investigation. After Maggie got the antidote, OA recovered to an extent. Nonetheless, he was hospitalized later.

While his health condition is surely out of danger, he still needs time to recover. Hence, the writers sidelined him in Episode 5.

Another reason is that the character was omitted from the episode as part of cost-cutting. CBS made budget-related changes affecting the FBI franchise to cope with the increasing production costs. As a result, some of the series regulars will now appear only in 20 episodes, instead of the usual 22. This is for shows like FBI and FBI: Most Wanted, where some seasons feature 22 episodes. On the other hand, FBI: International is reportedly unaffected by the decision.

The eighth season of FBI quite literally ended with a bang in the fall 2025 TV schedule, with CBS’ hit drama delivering a lot of action to hold fans over until the winter premiere in the 2026 TV schedule. The case of the week started out with a series of murders that were tragic but not quite finale-worthy, then took a chaotic turn when a terrorist group struck at the heart of Manhattan, nearly killing Jubal’s son in the process.

Jubal crossed some major lines in the aftermath, and Jeremy Sisto spoke with CinemaBlend about potential consequences and what wasn’t even in the script.

What Happened To Jubal In FBI’s Two-Part Fall Finale

It was clear by the end of the first hour why the FBI team needed two episodes to tell the story of the 3rd Testament terrorist group, with attacks that took down communications and transit before unleashing cyanide gas on a tunnel of helpless civilians.

For Jubal, the case was intensely personal as soon as Tyler was caught in an explosion, and a terrifying ambulance ride meant that he was in no mood to be reasoned with when he tracked down the man with answers that could crack it wide open.

He resorted to torture to try and get the answers, informing the man that he was there as a father rather than an FBI agent, and he wasn’t following the rules. Jubal proved that he wasn’t bluffing when he stuck his finger into the man’s open wound, and might have done worse if Maggie and OA hadn’t shown up in time to take over.

Their suspect accidentally let something slip that helped them save a lot of lives, and Tyler ultimately woke up to his parents’ immense relief, but the episode ended without any clear sign of whether Jubal will face professional consequences for his actions.

Jeremy Sisto Shares What Wasn’t In The Script

Jeremy Sisto wasn’t kidding when he previewed the “worst kind of scenarios” for Jubal in the fall finale, and Isobel wasn’t exactly thrilled when he disobeyed orders. The crisis went down not long after higher-ups at the Bureau decided that his history meant that he wasn’t a good candidate for promotion; will he face any consequences for his actions from those higher-ups? The Law & Order vet responded with “I don’t think so,” then continued:

I think he’s waiting for the phone to ring, for sure, [because of] what he did. The pushing on the wound wasn’t even scripted. That just sort of came up and felt right, but that’s not okay for an agent to do. That’s definitely not good, so I would say that he’s definitely waiting with the phone to ring. But I think they also stopped this really horrible thing from happening and a lot can be forgotten in the wake of something [like that]. But in real life, I think it would be hard for this not to be handled in a more direct way.

Just because Jubal didn’t get a slap on the wrist (or something much more substantial) by the time the credits rolled doesn’t mean that he’s guaranteed to be off the hook. It should be interesting to see if that unscripted act of torture is a factor in what Jubal does next as Season 8 continues. Sisto went on to share what he liked about the dark twist for his character:

Nobody was there when it happened, and he’s going to punish himself quite a bit for letting this sense of righteous vengeance motivate him. Ultimately, it didn’t do any good, and I liked that that was the story, because it doesn’t. That kind of acting from that kind of emotion, he doesn’t get any information out of this guy because he’s torturing him. He figures out his next move based on something the guy accidentally says. It didn’t seem to me like the guy was going to budge. So I don’t know what would have happened if Maggie and OA hadn’t shown up, but I’d like to think [Jubal] would have come to his senses.

Whether or not Jubal faces any professional consequences for his actions, the eight seasons of FBI so far proved that blaming himself is one of Jubal’s specialties. That’ll be especially true if he acknowledges that his tactics didn’t work, because any confession he got out of torture wouldn’t have been reliable.

And that wasn’t even the only unscripted twist of the two-parter. The stakes changed from professional to personal for Jubal when he discovered that his son had been caught in an explosion. The ASAC rode with his son in the ambulance, muttering to himself the whole time. I asked Jeremy Sisto if that was scripted, and he shared:

That was not, no. I don’t know where that came from. If you’re not religious, that’s the moment when you become religious. You’re just like, ‘Please, please, please, please.’ I haven’t seen it, and I don’t fully remember exactly what I was doing, but it wasn’t planned. I’m sure it came from a sense of just pleading with the unknown to not let this happen. ‘Please don’t let it be my boy that dies.’

Fortunately, Tyler did not die, and the episode ended on a heartwarming note for the Valentine family. The teen still has a road to recovery ahead of him, but considering the length of the upcoming winter hiatus, he may be back on his feet by the time FBI returns to primetime in the new year.

Dick Wolf’s “Law and Order” empire has continued to grow over the years, with the franchise helping to define NBC’s primetime programming over the last few decades. But Wolf has some irons in the fire over at CBS with the “FBI” franchise as well. At first glance, that might seem strange: When you think of NBC’s lineup, both “Law and Order” and the “One Chicago” franchise come to mind immediately. With that kind of long-running success on one network, it’s not very often the creator signs on to work with a competitor.

The arrangement is unique in broadcasting, but there’s a good reason why Wolf’s “FBI” shows live on CBS instead of NBC: Namely, the latter didn’t have room in its schedule for another procedural crime drama. “There was no more beachfront real estate at NBC,” Wolf said at The Television Critics Association’s 2018 press tour (via The Hollywood Reporter). “And [NBC Entertainment president] Bob [Greenblatt] agreed and basically we’ve come up with a formula where it will be a profitable venture for both studios because it’s a co-production.”

FBI is on CBS because NBC didn’t have room for it

Primetime slots on major broadcast networks like CBS, NBC, ABC, and Fox are hard to come by, but it may be surprising for some fans to know that even Dick Wolf cannot always sway the people at the top of these networks to make space for one of his new projects.

There just isn’t room in the programming schedule sometimes. So the “Law and Order” creator used his experience and unique set of skills to his advantage, presenting CBS the chance to host a procedural that would be co-produced with NBC. That network keeps “Law and Order” running along, while also seeing profits from a competitor’s success — and CBS gets a brand-new franchise to spin off as much as possible, with two more “FBI” shows having already come and gone and a third, “CIA,” premiering in February 2026.

Wolf probably likes the sound of all that, as broadcast has been his bread and butter, despite the rise of first cable and now streaming. He told THR, “I am still a broadcast supplier. I have nothing against the concept of streaming. The math is a little daunting to me. I like doing 22, 23, 24 episodes a season in the abstract and not eight, because it takes almost as much work to do eight as it does to do a 24-episode season.”

It didn’t seem like it was ever going to happen, but FBI is kicking off the rest of its eighth season on Monday, February 23, with a special event: Stuart Scola (John Boyd) and Nina Chase’s (returning recurring guest star Shantel VanSanten) wedding!

“It felt like they’ve done everything in the wrong order, and they’ve done everything in a nontraditional way, and I think they were ready to let in a little bit of traditional commitment into their lives,” showrunner Mike Weiss tells TV Insider. “And I think this case that they work is going to put them both in danger to a degree that it seemed like a good time to make their love official.”

The case in the midseason premiere, titled “Confetti,” begins with an undercover operation Nina’s leading going sideways. Then, the team works together to flip their only witness to help them hunt down a rip crew at a cartel wedding. It’s in the aftermath that Scola and Nina, who have a son together who was born in the Season 5 finale, will realize they’re ready to get married.

When we spoke with John Boyd in January, he’d teased that “maybe some wedding bells” were coming up for the couple before confirming, “Big life changes,” with “a lot of mixed emotions” and “higher stakes.”

With the couple getting married, Boyd is curious to see “how a wedding, a marriage would change [Scola’s] life, change the relationship, and his relationship to the world.”

A wedding was previously addressed over on FBI: Most Wanted in Season 6, when Shantel VanSanten was a series regular on the spinoff, and Nina was clear that they didn’t have plans for one.

“She’s not the one who dreams of some big white wedding dress and wedding,” VanSanten told us in October 2024. “It works. It’s solid, and it wasn’t even something she was looking for. And so when it happens, she just doesn’t live in a fantasy fairytale life, and they have such a beautiful partnership and commitment to one another that getting married just isn’t on the agenda. It’s maybe unconventional in some ways, but I love that that’s their story because there’s plenty of people [for whom] a wedding and saying that you’re married doesn’t mean you are more or less committed than people who wake up every day and choose to love one another and to face the world with the same commitment you would if you had signed a piece of paper and were wearing a ring.”

Maggie’s (Missy Peregrym) past is coming back to haunt her in the worst way in the Monday, March 16, episode of FBI.

This is an episode that Peregrym previously teased for us, and now TV Insider can exclusively reveal the logline and first photos for “Forgiven.” In this episode, CBS teases, “After Maggie’s sister, Erin, goes missing, the team begins an all-out search to recover her. But when Maggie discovers Erin was kidnapped by a sinister figure from her past, she must race to save her before it’s too late.” Adrienne Rose Bengtsson was last seen as Erin in Season 5.

Erin isn’t seen in the photos above and below, but they do depict the team’s investigation. Not only do we have to wonder about those photos in front of Maggie and OA (Zeeko Zaki) and we see that Zach Grenier returns as Peter Olsen, but we’re also very worried about Maggie. What leads to that cut on her head and bloody hand?!

The last episode featuring Erin didn’t leave the sisters in the best of places:  Maggie was concerned about her being involved in a case with drugs and admitted she embarrassed her. The FBI agent “doesn’t feel great” about where the sisters’ relationship was left, Peregrym told us earlier this year. “It’s something I haven’t been able to repair, and I feel awful about the fact that I think it’s my fault because I didn’t handle a situation well. And so the rift is too big, and I can’t repair it.”

Grenier was introduced as Peter earlier this season in Season 8 Episode 2. Then, the retired BAU profiler called Maggie out on having another reason other than chess to be visiting him. “You have good stories. I like to hear them. That’s all,” she claimed at first.

But when she went to see him at the end of the episode, she finally admitted what was going on. “You have a gift, Maggie. You are a natural profiler. The BAU would be lucky to have you, and I would be very happy to put in a word,” he offered. But that wasn’t what she wanted. “I love where I am. I love my team,” she insisted. “I think this past year has made me feel off-balance. I feel like when I look around, I don’t really recognize the world anymore. So I guess I was hoping if I could get deeper into the minds of the criminals we’re hunting, then maybe I could make sense of something.”

The actor, 48, exclusively told Us Weekly that the Tuesday, November 18, episode is “something that we’ve never quite done yet,” and it’s all about McGee and his Deep Six books.

“McGee is back at it again with his Deep Six novels, doing his thing, writing his book, and he has a little bit of a run-in with an obsessed fan and McGee gets kidnapped,” Murray teased. “He’s in a little bit of trouble, and he’s got to figure his way out of it.”

In order to crack the case and get out alive, McGee has to turn to the fictional Deep Six characters for help.

McGee’s book characters are based on his NCIS team in Washington, D.C., but with a few big differences — which make for a comedic hour of TV.

“It was great. It was a challenging episode for us, for sure, because [when] we get together, we know each other shorthand as our agents, as our characters,” Murray explained, noting that seeing Gary Cole as Professor Parkman is proof he’s a “chameleon.” (Cole usually plays Alden Parker.)

The actor teased, “It was fun to see Gary come in and do this fully realized kind of English professor character. Somewhat Ducky, like, a little bit,” referring to the late David McCollum’s portrayal of NCIS medical examiner Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard, who was British.

Murray revealed that Katrina Law, who plays Jessica Knight, had an equally fun role as the fictional Agent Knightshade.

“She’s in a sort of Tomb Raider, superhero outfit sort of thing. I mean, all that was fun,” he shared. “I remember the first time we all got together, Katrina is going, ‘Should I try an English accent? Should I do, like, a kind of a cheesy English accent? What level should we [have]?’”

Murray hinted that her accent as Knightshade is over the top because they had “fun with it.”

Wilmer Valderrama, explored two totally different vibes between Nick Torres and his book persona, Rick Soares. Torres is known for being rough around the edges, a badass agent and loyal to a fault. His alter ego, however, is nerdy, scared to ruffle feathers and much more reserved.

“Seeing Wilmer come in and figure out Rick Soares was one of my favorite things in the world,” Murray told Us. “The sweater vest, the glasses, the intonation in his voice. All of it is so good.”

The make-believe portion of the episode isn’t just for Murray’s counterparts, as he also gets to play McGee’s alter ego, McGregor.

“I think that McGee would like to be a little bit cooler, a little bit more proactive [like McGregor],” Murray said. “But I think all of us have that version of ourselves that we’re looking for.”

When it comes to the case itself, Murray told Us, “You hope things are going to work out OK,” teasing the conclusion unfolds in a “pretty respectable way.”

The week before that happens though, TV journalist Matt Mitovich shared in the latest edition of Matt’s Inside Line that NCIS will deliver a McGee-focused episode. This March 17 episode sees the routine case the main characters are investigating turn “unexpectedly personal” when they discover “a hidden chapter from his past that could rewrite his entire life.”

Now, this information alone wouldn’t warrant speculation that Sean Murray is leaving NCIS. Timothy McGee has had plenty of episodes over the years focused on him, including last November’s “Page-Turner,” when he hallucinated his teammates as the characters in his Deep Six books. However, it’s the increased references to McGee’s side gig as author Thom E. Gemcity that have had me wondering if NCIS intends to transition out of the law enforcement agency to make writing his full time career, as the agency is in the midst of budget cuts.

I might be reading too much into this, but the use of “chapter” and “rewrite” in Matt Mitovich’s report immediately made me think of the Deep Six books again. McGee’s literary alter-ego stretches back to NCIS Season 4, but it’s been brought up more throughout Season 23. Additionally, McGee was up for a promotion to Deputy Director in Season 22, but he lost out on that job to Gabriel LaRoche. While we eventually learned the reason why LaRoche was set up at NCIS, there’s been no mention of McGee trying to land that job again. He seems content to continue working as a field agent alongside Alden Parker, Nick Torres and Jessica Knight.

It’s entirely possible that this secret that will be revealed in the March 17 NCIS episode has nothing to do with Thom E. Gemcity and Deep Six, but I still can’t help feeling like the popular CBS show is setting up Sean Murray’s departure. Few actors are able to play a TV character for 20+ years, so I wouldn’t fault Murray for wanting to end this chapter of his career to try something different. Maybe whatever happens in this episode will pave the way for that happening… or maybe this is just my paranoia talking.

Whatever happens with Timothy McGee for the rest of NCIS Season 23, fans of the series can at least take comfort knowing that not only will new episodes return on March 3, but that the procedural has been renewed for a 24th season. Hopefully we’ll continue to see McGee in the 2026-2027 TV season, but for now, my concerns aren’t going away.

The murder of a drone pilot who was doing side work investigating a missing woman had McGee thrown; he saw the body with the photo of Olivia (Elena Goode), whom McGee dated for a few months back in 2008, before he met Delilah.

The team investigated the research facility Olivia worked at, where McGee met bumbling intern Pete (Patrick Keleher). It turned out Pete was really Mateo, Olivia’s son, who was searching for her. He mentioned how his birth father had run off before he was born, and it didn’t take McGee long to do the math.
