With filming expected to begin next month, Thornton balances ‘Landman,’ a new Boxmasters album, and a summer tour.
Fans of Landman finally have confirmation that Billy Bob Thornton will be back for Season 3—and the news arrived just as the actor announced a packed summer tour with his band, The Boxmasters.
According to The Houston Chronicle, Thornton confirmed that production on the third season of the Paramount+ hit is set to begin in May 2026, putting to rest questions about whether his music schedule would conflict with his television work.
The actor, who stars as oil executive Tommy Norris, is expected to begin filming before heading out on the road for The Boxmasters’ 2026 Morro Rock Tour, which launches June 20 in Orangevale, California, and runs through early August.
Thornton is balancing two major projects at once. In addition to returning to Landman, he and longtime collaborator J.D. Andrew are releasing a new Boxmasters album, In The Bay, on June 12. The record, the band’s 21st studio album, was inspired by Morro Bay, California and leans heavily into the pair’s affection for 1960s rock and pop.
Even with the tour and album rollout, Thornton made it clear that Landman remains part of his plans. Asked whether he would return for the new season, Thornton said simply: “I’ll be there.”
That confirmation is significant for the series, which ended its second season in January with Tommy Norris at a crossroads. After being pushed out of M-Tex Oil by Cami Miller, Tommy launched a new company, CTT Oil Exploration and Cattle, with Cooper, Rebecca, Ariana, and several other longtime allies joining him.
The finale also left Tommy facing pressure from Danny “Gallino” Morrell, whose warning that he would “take what you love the most” set up what could become one of the show’s darkest storylines yet.
The series, created by Taylor Sheridan and inspired by Boomtown, has become one of Paramount+’s biggest draws. The Season 2 finale generated 1.77 billion streaming minutes in the week leading up to its release, while recent online interest in the show has surged again after clips explaining rising gas prices went viral.
Season 3 is expected to continue following Tommy’s attempt to build CTT Oil while his daughter Ainsley adjusts to life away at college. Michelle Randolph has already hinted that the next chapter for Ainsley may involve a painful shift as the character moves further outside her comfort zone.
